Walk with a Doc Est. 1967

Good morning! Hope your week has been treating you well. Friday! We have some exciting news. We’re changing the date that Walk with a Doc was started. Our team has been reading up on some notable events of the 20th century (Polio Vaccine, Discovery of Penicillin, Louisiana Purchase, War of 1812, etc). They all have one thing in common. They occurred on cool dates – 1969, 1955, 1971…Back in 1967 we had MLK, Sinatra, Mickey Mantle, Cronkite, Gandhi, Lincoln, Edison, Oprah, Van Gogh – people at the ABSOLUTE top of their field. They had cool cars like the ’67 Mustang and cool hangouts like The Stardust.

Our first WWAD was 2005.

2005? We might as well write in in pink.

2005 is Hannah Montana, yellow sweetener packets, and Hurricane Katrina.

Not me, not our walk!

We’re announcing today publicly that we are officially changing our established date to 1967. There are a few reasons why we are moving on this now:
1)  We’re just getting started; good idea to change before people start asking a lot of questions. For example, I’m not even sure I’ve told Jessica and Bryan (our intern) when we started yet.
2)   Instant credibility. Better to have been around 50 years than 12. Shows staying power.
3)   This puts us (a little past) our 50th anniversary. No stress about what we are going to do to celebrate this landmark…the one we just celebrated.
4)   Est. 1967 sounds cool. Moon landing and Woodstock coming up, free love. Steve McQueen.

Walk leaders, you may get a couple questions. Here’s the pivot. “Huh, you guys have been around since 1967 Dr. Smith? How come I’ve never heard of you?”

Pivot.

“WOW those are nice socks Bob! That reminds me, how are your kids?” People LOVE talking about their kids.

This retrograde migration of dates isn’t as easy as it sounds. When we do things at WWAD World HQ, we’re all in. We’ve spent the last 6 days rubbing teabags over our bylaws, our code of regulations, all 311 contracts, burning their edges, then rewriting them with my genuine quill feather ink pen. We’ve had to throw out our computers – think about it – Jobs/Gates got their start in the 70’s. We were established in ’67. As a team, we’ve been manually rewind our HQ clocks over and over and over again. 365 (days) x 2 (12 hr cycles) x 50 (years) that’s a ton of winding. The argument has been that no one will notice; the clock doesn’t have a date. Again, that’s not the way we operate. All in. We haven’t told too many people about this so please let me know if you have any concerns. Otherwise, the first walk was April 15th, 1967. I checked, it was a Saturday. Yeah, if we could also try and keep this just between you and me. There’s a chance it may ruffle a couple feathers.
